Relevant historical milestones
Filipe de Castro Soeiro started training Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Do in 1984 in Lisbon, Portugal with Sensei Álvaro Silva (6th Dan) and in Murcia, Spain with Sensei Luís Nunes (8th Dan) at IOGKF – International Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Do Federation.
He became member of DKV – Deutscher Karate Verband e.V. and founded the Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Do Verein Berlin - OGKVB e.V. Berlin (IOGKF Berlin) in 2023.
He was awarded in 2022 the Sandan graduation (3rd Dan Black Belt degree) by IOGKF upon examination supervised by international reputed IOGKF Country Chief Instructors, Sensei Luís Nunes (Chief Instructor IOGKF Spain, 8th Dan), Sensei Sydney Leijenhorst (Chief Instructor IOGKF Netherlands, 7th Dan) and Sensei Peter Lembke (Chief Instructor IOGKF Germany, 6th Dan).
He has been practicing Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate for over twenty-five years; and initiated his teaching experience in 2013 in Portugal; then also in Germany in 2023.
Foundational knowledge, training experience and main supervisors
His foundational studies in Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate started at IOGKF founded by Sensei Morio Higaonna, firstly in Lisbon, Portugal, by training under the supervision of Sensei Álvaro Silva (6.Dan) and in Murcia, Spain with Sensei Luís Nunes (8.Dan).
Then, he enriched his learning experience in the 80’s, internationally, by training regularly at the mythical Age-Arashi Dojo in Murcia, Spain, with Sensei Luís Nunes (8.Dan) and Sensei Ryoichi Sensei (9.Dan).
Later, in the early 2000’s he became member of GKI and trained in international Gasshuku seminars supervised by Sensei James Rosseau (9.Dan, co-founder of IOGKF and founder of GKI Goju-Ryu Karate-Do International); his 1.Dan (Shodan) examination was supervised by Sensei James Rosseau (9.Dan).
He also trained and attended in the 80’s and 90’s Gasshuku seminars supervised by the legendary Master Morio Higaonna (10.Dan, founder of IOGKF), and by Sensei Teruo Chinen (7.Dan, founder of Jundokan International karate).
Moreover, he trained in various Gasshuku seminars across the world, including in Okinawa, Japan, some of which were supervised by Sensei Morio Higaonna (10.Dan), Sensei Teruo Chinen, (7.Dan), Sensei Luís Nunes (8.Dan), Sensei James Rosseau (9.Dan), Sensei Ryochi Onaga (9.Dan), Sensei Arnold de Beer (8th Dan), Sensei Philippe Renault (9th Dan), Sensei Leonard Sim (8th Dan), Sensei Pierluigi Aschieri (8th Dan), among others.
Since 2020, he has been training, additionally, with Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura (8.Dan), Sensei Pervez Mistry (9.Dan), Sensei Katsuya Yamashiro (8.Dan), Sensei Sydney Leijenhorst (7th Dan), Sensei Peter Lemke (6th Dan), Sensei Torben Svendsen (8th Dan), among others. He continues to train and learn from Sensei Luís Nunes (8th Dan) until today.
