OGKVB – Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Do Berlin e.V. (IOGKF Berlin) is a non-profit sports association “Sportverein” based in Berlin that was founded in 2023 for researching, teaching and training the traditional system of practices of Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate-Do. The meaning of Goju-Ryu can be freely translated by: ‘the hard-soft Karate style’ of Okinawa.
The traditional Goju-Ryu style originally from the Japanese Island of Okinawa with Chinese martial arts roots is about pure effectiveness in situations of self-defense, as well as an essential contribution to physical, mental and spiritual development. We aim to experience the ultimate form and state-of-mind of traditional Goju-Ryu Karate in its full emptiness, happiness and fulfillment.
Firstly, and foremostly, we train, study and teach traditional Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate by following and understanding the lifelong history, cultural traditions and philosophy of this martial art. By doing so, we envision acting to preserve traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do as part of an intangible cultural worldwide treasure heritage, which we feel inspired by and responsible for.
Our purpose is to inspire, train and educate individuals to become better persons, while impacting positively in society. Our Innovative Didactics and Pedagogics are based on the following key elements:
Integrating innovative practical didactics and pedagogics in traditional karate.
Developing situational awareness and self-defense with traditional Goju-Ryu karate.
Integrating traditional Chinese acupressure techniques for body, mind and spirit as pathways of energy Qi flow.
Developing intelligent movement, minimum energy and decision-making processes.
Integrating a learning process where the instructor assesses understanding needs and tasks, establishes particular learning objectives, and formulates teaching strategies to lead to self-development and self-confidence, positive human relationships and leadership.
Our Association promotes Okinawa Goju-Ryu karate as a martial art practiced under traditional learning curriculum, while considering the utmost advanced sport- and health-standards. We do so by implementing innovative pedagogy and didactic systems for karate training, personal development and decision-making.
To this end, members are motivated to participate in regular training, martial arts festivals, sporting activities and competitions, teaching and research conferences, gasshukus, seminars and other appropriate related activities.
Develop the physical, mental and spiritual elements of the human condition through karate-Do.
Protect the Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do tradition as an intangible cultural treasure, while promoting the art through diligent training for continuous further knowledge and development.
Integrate wisdom, fair judgment, and good technical domain ability by cooperating and working openly and seriously with instructors, learners and other key stakeholders.
Introduce karate-Do as a form of martial arts education within the educational system, in schools, gyms and any occupational center, with the aim of improving the human condition of younger and older generations.
Foster human relations and promote valuable exchanges, through all activities developed and implemented by our Association, including courses, seminars, gasshukus, championships, and other sporting or cultural and scientific events.
